Date Published: April 21, 2021

From Beacon to Red Hook, bottom to top, Dutchess County has no shortage of treats to satisfy your sweet tooth this spring.

Samuel’s Sweet Shop, Rhinebeck

You'll love the nostalgic feeling the minute you walk into Samuel’s Sweet Shop! This cozy candy shop offers delicious chocolates, old-fashioned candies, specialty coffee, espresso and hot chocolate, and even baked goods. This must-stop spot in Rhinebeck is well-known for its affiliation with stars Paul Rudd, Jeffrey Dean and Hilarie Burton!

Hudson Valley Marshmallow Company, Beacon

A sweet morsel handmade from all natural ingredients in small batches? There’s practically nothing to feel guilty about. You haven’t had a real marshmallow until you’ve tried Hudson Valley’s finest. Try one of their ‘fave four’ – vanilla, chocolate, strawberry or caramel – or one of their latest flavor creations. Great for s’more making, hot cocoa sipping and gift giving!

Alps Sweet Shop, Beacon and Fishkill

At Alps Sweet Shop, you can taste the quality! This family owned and operated chocolate shop has been in business since 1922. The family continues the tradition of their relatives by making chocolate following time honored recipes, in small batches, and using fresh natural ingredients to make the finest chocolates and confections in the Hudson Valley. Keep it classic with truffles and assorted chocolates, or mix things up with chocolate covered potato chips or chocolate dipped devil dogs!

Zoe’s Ice Cream Barn, Lagrangeville

Hudson Valley cows’ milk is the secret to the yummiest ice cream. You’ll think so too when you try this hard or soft serve that promises ‘cow to cone’ in three days, made possible through a partnership with Hudson Valley Fresh. Grab a spoon for a time-honored favorite or try their unique flavors like lavender honey or lemon.

Peaceful Provisions, Beacon

After years of selling compassionately crafted vegan doughnuts at pop-up locations in the Hudson Valley, Peaceful Provisions is finally finding a home with us here in Beacon. This minority and women-owned artisan doughnut shop specializes in small-batch and scratch-made vegan doughnuts. No pre-made mixes, icings or fillings here! Everything is scratch-made from high quality ingredients. Soft opening set for Thursday, April 22nd – keep an eye out for details on their Instagram!

Emy Delights & Bites, Hyde Park

Emy’s is one of the newer sweet shops in Dutchess, with a mission to provide tasty foods and desserts that everyone can enjoy! They’ve committed to offering products free of all the top major allergens including soy, wheat, dairy, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame or mustard. But don’t be tricked, Emy’s is definitely not skimping on flavor! Try their chocolate truffles, cake pops, cookies and fudge cups.

The Chocolate Studio, Beacon

Another great options for vegan and gluten free sweets is The Chocolate Studio! Stock up on samplers, cake pops, chocolate dipped strawberries, baked goods and the ever popular hot cocoa bombs!

Glazed Over Donuts, Beacon

Gone are the days when a donut was just a breakfast treat, fortunately they’ve graduated to full-fledged dessert status. Stop by this shop morning, noon or night, for custom, doughy goodness. It’s sure to be the freshest donut you’ve had in a while, as each one is made to order before your eyes. Then choose your glaze, toppings and drizzles for an unforgettable, sweet snack.

The Cakery, Fishkill

For a mini treat that’s both tasty and Instagram worthy, grab a decorated cookie (or two) and go! The owners of this sweet bakery were taught that dessert is the best part of every good meal by their Great Grandma Rosie. They’re proud to create a fourth course for you, that not only looks fantastic – but tastes that way too!

Taste Budd’s Café, Red Hook

Delicious bite sized chunks cut from a handmade slab, fresh from the fudge kettle… drooling yet? Visit this charming café on a weekend for some live music and mouthwatering confections. Stay a while and have a meal under an umbrella in their outdoor seating area, but seriously – don’t pass on the fudge.
