"City of Angels" closes 54th County Players Season
See the County Players Falls Theatre close their 54th season with Larry Gelbart's "City of Angels." County Players Sarah Laine Terrell, Michele George, Jim Nurre, Jarek Zabczynski, Dean Temple and others relive glamorous Hollywood in the 1940s, with characters like young novelist Stine (Zabczynski), struggling to write a screenplay for movie producer Buddy Fidler (Temple).Little does Stine know, his private detective character Stone (Nurre), lovely socialite Alaura Kingsley (Terrell) and her missing stepdaughter (Meade) come to life on stage as he writes. Everything becomes a blur because, while it appears that this fictional screenplay is happening live, Stine realizes he must confront his sell-out, alter ego Stone and manipulative Buddy Fidler. After quitting the project, Stine is able to get it all back together and regain the love of his wife.
Still unsure of what's going on in "The City of Angels" Director Jeff Wilson said, "City of Angels is a unique musical that combines a jazzy musical score with 1940s Hollywood glamour and gritty black and white film noir. Most of the actors play parts in both Hollywood and the detective story 'movie.' It takes a special group of actors and singers to bring together these diverse elements. There are many scene changes and locations to be represented on stage, plus the black and white movie scenes and Hollywood scenes in living color. I'm proud that our talented cast and crew has taken on the challenge and excelled."
Music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by David Zippel are highlights, presented in this production. Wilson works with Joel Flowers (musical direction), Becky Clina (Vocal direction) and Jennifer Turoff (choreography).
Performances are on Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5, 11 and 12, 18 and 19 at 8pm, and on Sunday, May 13 at 2pm. Tickets are $20 and $17 for seniors/children under 12.
