Harvest Kitchen Demonstrations, Dutchess County Fair, Building E

« Back to Home

Each day of the Dutchess County Fair through August 26, Building E's Harvest Kitchen presents how-to cooking demonstrations by professional chefs, cookbook authors and even area produce purveyors. Dutchess County Fair's chef extraordinaire, Jack Ford, organizes the Harvest Kitchen Demonstrations and announces each show.

All events start at 11am daily and seating is limited, so be sure to head over early for a choice seat.

Thursday morning's demos start with Deanna Bellacicco Breault from "Bella's Home-Baked Goods" at 11am. Craig Nassar "The Practical Chef" is on at 1:30pm and Joe Longendyke, Seafood Manager from Kingston's Adams Fairacre Farms is on at 3:30pm with a special shrimp and lobster demonstration. At 6pm "My Brother Bobby's Salsa - Beyond the Chip" features Bobby and Valerie Gropper.

Jennifer Brizzi, area food columnist leads off the demos on Friday at 11am. Norma Chang returns at 1:30pm and Debbie Decker, Cheese Shop Manager for Poughkeepsie Adam's Fairacre Farm is on at 3:30pm. Dan Budd, owner of Taste-Budd's Cafe and Taste-Budd's Concessions is scheduled for 6pm.

Andrea Carvalho returns Saturday Morning at 11am. The 10-year-old competition between the "Dutchess County Emergency Services Cook-off"pits the Dutchess County Sheriffs versus the Rhinebeck Fire Department once again. The challenge is presented much like the Iron Chef competitions. Each group is given a 'secret' ingredient and then instructed to make an appetizer, main course and dessert using that item. The bragging rights and cash prize for the winning group's favorite charity is decided by four judges; two culinary professionals and two Dutchess County agriculture board members. At 3:30pm Sean Lacey, from Newburgh Adams Fairacre Farms meat department presents his demonstration. At 6pm Jake Cunningham from the Chatham Brewing Company holds a Beer Seminar.

Sunday, the last day of the fair, brings Andrea Carvalho back for Cooking with Herbs at 11am. Wild Hive Farm, Clinton Corners presents their demonstrations with and about locally grown grains at 1:30pm. At 3:30pm, Chef Meghan Fells from Poughkeepsie's fine restaurant The Artist's Palate is on hand, and at 6pm Andrea Carvalho finishes the Harvest Kitchen Demonstrations for 2012.

Cabot and McCadam cheese samplings are available throughout the week.
