Emporer Jones.
Theater
New Day Repertory Company presents Eugene O'Neill's drama. This rarely produced American masterpiece is a tragedy rooted deep in US history. It's the first play to depict the Middle Passage (voyage of slaves from Africa to America). It's eight brief, expressionistic scenes tell of a charismatic Pullman porter with a shady past who's recreated himself as the dictator of a Caribbean paradise. We follow him as he flees for his life during a native revolt. Brutus Jones carries the burden of black oppression within him, ghosts he can’t exorcise. He's O’Neill’s Macbeth, a man of promise and valor who's killed by silver bullets representing his greed and ambition. Produced in collaboration with Wolf Lane Productions. Fri. 8pm; Sat. 3pm and 8pm; & Sun. 3pm. $18; $17/Sr.; $16/St.; $15/groups of 12+. Pay at door in cash or by check.
