April 2013

Join the "Dutchess on the Move!" Transportation Parade

Dutchess County Heritage Days celebrates 300 years of Democracy in 2013, which began with an October 1713 assembly act giving residents the okay to hold our first local elections. Tourism, along with the Dutchess Heritage Days Committee, has many events celebrating our rich heritage all year long!

One of the biggest is the "Dutchess on the Move!" parade in Poughkeepsie on Saturday, July 6th at 10:30am. Come join in the fun! We're seeking participants to show how many different modes of transportation have been used over 300 years. Do you have a classic car, truck or motorcycle? Antique farm or military equipment? A boat, or even a horse-drawn carriage? We want you to be in our parade! The annual Hot-Air Balloon festival is the same weekend, July 5-7, sponsored by the Dutchess Regional Chamber of Commerce. Find out more participating and download registration forms at http://www.dcrcoc.org/heritagedays Additional events that weekend include a 5k Freedom Run and a Sharkfest Swim in the Hudson River! Check out other exciting Heritage events, from lectures to reenactments, in our online calendar!
