Roosevelt Ride: Free Shuttle in Service

Don’t let your lack of transportation stop you from visiting some of Dutchess County’s premier historical sites. The National Park Service (NPS) is once again running a shuttle from Poughkeepsie’s Metro-North train station to Hyde Park. Visit the FD Roosevelt Home, Presidential Library & Museum; Eleanor Roosevelt’s Val-Kill; and FDR's retreat Top Cottage.

Tivoli Artists Co-op Fourth Annual Landscape Show

Tivoli Artists Co-op announces the Fourth Annual Landscape Show, from June 20 to July 13, 2008. You're invited to meet many of the artists at the opening reception on Saturday, June 21 from 6:30-8pm, with a demonstration of "en Plein Air" painting by artist Richard Lisle from 5-6:30pm. The show features landscapes in all mediums by Tivoli Artist Co-op members. It's a terrific chance to see work inspired by nature from around the region.

Omega Institute Reopens for Season

New York State's magnificent Hudson River Valley is widely recognized for its scenic landscapes, arts and culture, and historical significance, making it one of the most sought after vacation destinations in the country. Each year, more than 16,000 people visit Omega Institute’s 195-acre Rhinebeck campus for restoration, inspiration, and fun. Omega’s campus reopens this week, with more than 325 educational programs planned from April through October.

Federation of Dutchess County Fish and Game Clubs, Inc. and the Rotary Clubs of Poughkeepsie South Catskill 19th Annual Fighting Hudson River Striped Bass Derby May 2008 Derby has been cancelled. RARE BIRDS EMERGE AT OLD RHINEBECK AERODROME

Rhinebeck, NY, April 29, 2008: Drivers on Stone Church Road in Rhinebeck last Saturday were treated to sightings of some extremely rare birds. Volunteers and staff have begun the annual migration of antique and reproduction airplanes from their winter resting places to the flight line of Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. “This rite of spring occurs each year as the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum prepares to open on May 12,” said Jim Record, President of the Old Rhinebeck Museum.

Powerhouse Theatre Unveils New Pieces This Summer

The Powerhouse Theatre opens its doors for their 24th season, with many new and exciting shows debuting. This 2008 season includes new musicals, plays, and comedy acts by some of America’s most well renowned artists and actors. The Powerhouse Theatre season, at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, runs from June 27 through August 3.

Hyde Park Heritage Greenway Trail Expands

Hike the new, recently added path, of the Hyde Park Heritage Greenway Trail. The new trail easement was donated by The Anderson Center for Autism and opened in early November. This new walkway establishes a trail for public use along the Hudson River, linking the Vanderbilt National Historic Site to Norrie Point State Park. On top of this, the pathway grants 2,400 feet of new trail access through school property.

The Garden Conservancy Saves More than Gardens

The Garden Conservancy is cleaning up the environment in new and improved ways. In addition to opening private gardens to the public, they've changed their method of printing the Open Days Program for the upcoming season. The new printing process includes the use of Forest Stewardship Council-certified paper, vegetable dye-based inks, and 100% wind power.

The Historic Horton House Opens to the Public

A "new" historic site is now open to the public - and that is a rare happening! The Joseph Horton House, (c.1752) in Wappingers Falls, offers Colonial tours of the pre-Revolutionary war homestead of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Horton.

Vassar College Film Series

The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College holds a weekly outdoor film series every Thursday evening from March 27 to June 5. The films shown exemplify brilliant works that span several decades.The weekly outdoor films are shown on the campus lawn alongside the Art Center beginning at 7:30pm.
